Planning your trip
When should we arrive and depart the Reno area?
Class begins at 0830 out at Wild West Motorsports Park each morning. So please arrive the day prior to the first day of training. The 4 & 5 day courses end when we are mission complete. That means, all machines returned from a 120 or 140 mile culmination movement. So please, do not think we will be done early. This is the longest day. An early morning departure the day AFTER training is complete, is highly encouraged.
Where does the training take place?
All courses are run from the Wild West Motorsports Park. This first class off-road motorsports facility is located 5 miles east of Sparks, NV, just north of Interstate 80 at the Mustang exit (Exit #23.) The track hosts the Lucas Oil Racing short course circut several times a year, the unbelievable season-ending Ultra4 Championships along with regional races and events and provides us with our home base for training. In addition to the massive pit/parking areas where we have our classroom and technique training, we utilize the undeveloped areas of the complex during the initial phases of training. As our students advance, so does the terrain difficulty. From our training site at the complex, we have access to hundreds of miles of diverse and rugged high desert training routes right from Wild West's parking lot. From steep mountain climbs to axle burying sand dunes; from wide hard-packed graded roads to 3 feet deep silt 2 tracks; from sidewall splitting granite to low hanging pinion pine branches. No other driving school competitor can offer what Precision Driven and Wild West Motorsports complex - and our surrounding desert areas - can offer. Click on their logo and check out their website for more information.
What type of vehicle(s) do you provide during training?
We provide your unit with 1 well maintained, Arctic Cat Wildcat X 1000 machine per 2-man driving crew. It's the civilian equivalent to a Polaris MRZR 2. However, it is the perfect platform to provide valuable insight into ANY mobility platform - but with a few comforts only found on the Wildcat X. Plus, the weight distribution front to rear of 40/60 just happens to be exactly the same as the new GMV1.1. So not only does this vehicle allow us to extract a higher degree of driver performance but it provides some similarities in the dynamics of one of the newest deployable vehicles.
Who pays for the fuel?
As long as we are running one of our standard courses, we buy the fuel, oil and all other machine consumables.
What happens if I have a flat?
You change it while the rest of your team throws rocks at you! As trainers, our job is to teach drivers how to NOT have flats, so you get 1 flat per machine. After that, you pay for each tire we replace.
Who is responsible for vehicle damage beyond normal wear and tear?
You are. Each person is responsible for damage up to $2,499.00 - the deductible amount. It is our mandate to protect our equipment and the safety of our students. Without our machines, we can't teach our drivers. At our sole discretion - if necessary - we will repair the machine and submit a repair invoice and all supporting documentation to your organization just like any rental car agency would do. Because safety is our highest prioity, the driver involved in the incident may be asked to step out of the driver seat for the remainder of training.
Where do we stay?
If you have limited travel funds, we highly recommend the comfortable single person BEQ lodging at Camp Stead Training Center. It is an easy 20 minutes to the track facility and they provide free Wi-Fi, a nicely appointed gym facility open 24 hours, refrigerators & microwaves in each room, frozen foods and beverages available at the billeting office Monday through Friday, on-site laundry available, automotive wash rack and loading dock all on property. The Camp Stead staff is a valuable team member supporting your training.
What about staying on the economy?
If your travel budget allows staying in town, then check out the recommendations on our civilian based training FAQ's page.
What should I wear?
We train year 'round. When its hot outside, it's hot inside the SXS. Dress appropriate for a hot or cold day. Your course fee includes the use of our helmets, if you choose, and a driving jersey to keep as well. Because we require you to use your hands and feet simultaneously, bring some light weight driving shoes/boots and your own gloves.
How can I pay?
You can either pay on a per person basis or on a per course basis. Either way, the tuition is paid by credit card directly from the cart tab of this website. Just tell us how your organization wants to purchase the instruction and we will set up the registration form - for your specific dates - to accomodate your payment needs.
Can you provide on-site emergency medical support?
Because safety is a priority, we provide a safety plan to REMSA prior to training. Most training locations have access to cellular communications for a 911 call. If you need additional support during your training, we can make that happen too!
